A Delaware judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Fox News by Nina Jankowicz, the former head of the Department of Homeland Security’s anti-misinformation board.
The judge on Monday granted Fox’s motion to dismiss the case, according to court documents, ruling that the statements Jankovic alleged were defamatory were either about the board she supervised and not about her, or were materially true.
Jankowicz’s lawsuit alleged that Fox falsely claimed that it “intended to censor Americans’ speech” and that it “wanted to give authorized Twitter users, including itself, the ability to edit others’ tweets,” among other allegations.
Jankovich, a leading researcher and writer on disinformation, resigned in 2022, shortly after taking the job when the Department of Homeland Security decided to “shut down” the council after backlash.
“This was a politically motivated lawsuit aimed at silencing free speech, and we are pleased the court has decided to protect the First Amendment,” the network said in a statement Monday.
