Localis, The Kitchen in Sacramento maintains its Michelin stars

Two restaurants in Sacramento have maintained a Michelin star, one of the highest awards that can be obtained in the culinary world. According to the 2023 edition of the Michelin Guide, Localis and The Kitchen retained their stars, which can be disqualified if restaurants don’t keep up with the criteria for what entails a Michelin star. The one star is described as having high quality cooking and well worth the stop. The maximum rating a restaurant can get is three stars, which the guide describes as exceptional cuisine and “worth a special trip”. Restaurants can also separately earn a Green Star, which is awarded to restaurants that are leaders in sustainability. Localis Restaurant, located at 21st and S Streets in Midtown, earned its star in December 2022. The restaurant is owned and operated by Chef Chris Barnum-Dun. Offering a choice between seven or 12 courses from its tasting menu, the kitchen, located at Hurley Way and Howe Avenue in the Arden-Arcade district, retained its star, awarded in 2019. In all, six new California restaurants earned one Michelin star, and four new Green Stars were awarded. According to Michelin, this means that California has 15 of the 17 Green Star awarded restaurants in North America. “In California, gourmets and travelers can find a sustainable and inspiring cruise by land or sea, showcasing the best that lands and seasons have to offer,” said Gwendal Pollenek, International Director of Michelin Guides, in a statement. “These establishments—and the Golden State as a whole—are truly role models of environmentally conscious gastronomy.” These are the other Michelin rated restaurants in Sacramento.
