Logan Sargent Breaks Silence on Williams Firing with Personal Statement

Logan Sargent broke his silence after leaving Williams, deleting the message from his app, thanking the team and confirming that he will now take some time to evaluate his options for the future.

Sargent’s Formula 1 career ended early on Tuesday when Williams announced it had dropped the American from its line-up and would instead field junior Franco Colapinto for the final nine races of the season.

The announcement caps a difficult 20 months as a Formula 1 driver for Sargent, who struggled to adapt to the premier class after being promoted following a fourth-place finish in the 2022 Formula 2 championship.

But after scoring just one point in 36 races, it wasn’t long after Sargent’s crash in the third freestyle at Zandvoort that Formula 1 rumours declared it would be the end of the road for the 23-year-old.

Team principal James Vowles, who went into the summer break supporting Sargent but making clear he had to earn his place on the grid, confirmed that on Tuesday.

“Replacing a driver mid-season is not a decision we have taken lightly, but we believe it gives Williams the best chance of competing for points over the remainder of the season,” he said.

“There is no doubt that this is very difficult for Logan, who has given his all throughout his time at Williams, and we would like to thank him for all his hard work and positive attitude.”

“Logan remains a talented driver and we will support him to continue his racing career in the future,” he added.

What this future entails is something the censor must discover now.

Although he already knew in July that his days on the grid were numbered after Williams announced that Carlos Sainz would replace him as Alex Albon’s team-mate in 2025, Sargent believes he still has ten races left to show the world what he can do.

But after an accident in FP3 caused serious damage to the newly updated FW46, Williams took the harsh decision to drop him from the race after one race.

However, Sargent remains grateful for the opportunity to race in Formula 1, as he was one of only 776 people in history to have had the privilege.

In a message posted on his app, but which has since been deleted, he wrote:

Hello everyone,

“Following today’s news, I wanted to say that I am extremely grateful to Williams Racing for giving me my first opportunity in Formula 1.

“I am extremely grateful for the support I have received from everyone in the team since the moment I joined the Academy in 2021.

“Getting to drive a Formula 1 car for the first time in Abu Dhabi was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, while being the first American driver to score points in 30 years in Austin last season was a truly special moment.

“I am proud to have represented this historic club over the past two seasons. At this time, I will take some time to evaluate my options, before announcing my future in due course.

“Thank you, Logan.”

There are already rumours that Sargent will head to IndyCar in 2025, when the upcoming PREMA team will field two cars in the American open-wheel programme.
