Heche’s car crashed into a house in Los Angeles and caught fire on August 5. After the accident, Heche suffered a “severe brain injury due to hypoxia,” which deprived her brain of oxygen, among other serious injuries that followed the accident, her family and friends said in a statement to CNN.
She died Sunday after her life support devices were removed, according to her family representative.

The coroner stated that the cause of death was inhalation and thermal injury. According to the report published online, other “significant circumstances” in her death included “a slit fracture due to blunt trauma.”
The report says Heche’s body has since been released from the coroner’s office.
CNN has reached out to Heche’s representatives for comment.
