Janina Gavankar, one of Meghan Markle’s longtime best friends, was at the live taping Chris Rock’s flagship show on Netflix Saturday night — and watch the comedian skewer the Duchess of Sussex, Page Six can reveal.
A staunch advocate for Prince Harry’s wife and close friend of over 20 years, the “Vampire Diaries” actress was at Baltimore’s Hippodrome to watch Rock make history for the streaming service’s first global live-streaming event.
Sources told Page Six that Javankar, 42, joined her good friend Dave Chappelle backstage to watch the show in the VIP Green Room.
“Janina seemed to be enjoying the show very much, she was standing by the TV screens and laughing,” one eyewitness told us.
During his set, Rock, 58, mocked Oprah Winfrey’s 2021 interview with the Sussexes, in which they infamously claimed an anonymous royal raised “concerns” about “how dark” their baby might be before the birth of their son, Archie. . The comedian joked that Markle has been dealing with some “law people.”
“Like, who is this Meghan Markle girl? She looks like a nice lady — just complain. Like, didn’t she hit the fair-skin lottery?” Rock said to launch his diatribe before calling the royals “racist OGs.”
Rock has meticulously honed his routine over the past few months at a number of parties around the country, including at Radio City Music Hall in New York City back in October, where he made the same comments about Markle and the royal family. We were told that Gavankar had been to previous shows, so she knew what to expect.
Javankar joined a host of big names at Saturday’s screening, including director Spike Lee and his wife Tonya Lewis Lee, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, author Nelson George, storytellers Darnell Rollins, Sam Gaye and actor Stephen Hill, to name a few. alongside Arsenio Hall, David Spade and former “Saturday Night Live” stars Leslie Jones and Dana Carvey.

While talking about Markle, Rock put on a high-pitched voice to mock the Duke and Duchess.
She moans, I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? They are so racist, they wanted to know how brown a baby would be.
“I’m like, ‘This isn’t racist,’ because ‘even black people want to know what a brown baby will be like.'” street. We check behind their ears.”
Rock also joked that Markle was “acting so stupid” like she didn’t know anything.
“[She was] Go on Oprah [and] “I had no idea how racist they were,” he said. This is the royal family, right? They are the original racists. They invented colonialism, he said on stage, adding, “They invested in slavery like it was a Shark Tank.”
Rock then claimed that she knew what Markle was “going through,” saying, “I know her dilemma: a black girl trying to be accepted by her white in-laws.”
He continued, “Oh, it’s hard. It’s very hard, it’s very hard—but it’s not as hard as a white girl trying to be accepted by her black relatives. Now that’s really hard!”
Javankar was a guest at the Sussex wedding in May 2018. She also appeared on British television after the royal family responded to Oprah’s interview by saying “Memories may vary” on the couple’s claims of their time as hell behind palace walls.
Speaking on “This Morning,” Javankar hit back at the family’s allegations that she was unaware of the full extent of Meghan’s struggles when she was a working member of the royal family.
“Although ‘their memories may differ’, ours are not because we lived them with them,” Javankar said, directly quoting the palace’s statement. “And there are many emails and texts to support that.”
