More rural restaurants named “Best in America”

Two other South Carolina restaurants have been named America’s Best Restaurants. The national social network for America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) announced Friday that two dining venues, both in Spartanburg County, will be featured on its social media platforms and website, as well as the restaurants’ Facebook pages. On each date, the popular dishes at each restaurant will be highlighted, and the owners will talk about the importance of supporting their communities.

Ryan Mueller, owner of Game Day Grill, says the venue’s menu includes a grilled cheese sandwich—a second seller after the classic ham—and the Redneck Cubano, which consists of grilled pork, pork chops, pickles, mustard sauce, and peppercorns. Common “side favorites” include okra, sweet potatoes, and collard greens.

“Our collard greens are fresh collard greens from North Carolina,” Mueller says. “We try to make as much from scratch as possible, just like Banana Oreo pudding. We make it on the stovetop, just like Grandma did, but we use vanilla Oreos instead of vanilla chips.”
