The Bolivarian Coalition for Our American People rejected Panama’s call to resolve the post-election crisis in Venezuela.

The Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our America (ALBA) has rejected Panamanian President José Raúl Molino’s proposal to hold a regional summit to address the crisis in Venezuela, following allegations of presidential election fraud. It recognized Nicolás Maduro as head of state.

“No country has the right to ‘try actions’ that are not within a framework that respects the right of self-determination of peoples,” ALBA, led by Chavista and former Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Areza, expressed in a statement. He described Panama’s invitation as “interference” that has “destabilizing intentions and coup d’état intentions.”

Mulino – who proposed Tuesday’s summit – joined in recognizing opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia as Venezuela’s duly elected president on August 2, after the official result gave victory to Maduro, which Panama – as well as other countries – consider a “fraud”.

ALBA – Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica and Saint Lucia – invited countries, especially from the Latin American and Caribbean region, ” decisions of each state and its legal institutions And respect the means.”
