Oklahoma wasn’t about to let the month end without another fanfare in the enlistment track. Another big win for the head coach Brent Venables and company.
Kissimmee (Florida) Osceola defensive line Derek LeBlanc It became the Sooners’ latest four-star commitment, as OU was selected Thursday night.
Leblanc dropped to the bottom three of the OU, Penn State and Florida, with most agreeing that it was a showdown between the Sooners and the Gators.
Maybe once upon a time, this is a battle the OU didn’t win, but this is starting to become normal around Norman when it comes to defensive recruits. Men who may not have looked like they were heading into the near future before are now legitimate candidates and big victories.
Within three months, Leblanc made three visits to Norman, including an official visit on June 3 at the weekend for ChampU Family BBQ.
Leblanc is another sign of how Venables’ line of thinking works. The OU was the first big official visit as Leblanc went to Florida on June 10 and Pennsylvania on June 17, then took the following month to assess and figure things out.
The four-star commitment became 8th this month and 9th overall. OU now has 18 commitments overall with nine rated at four stars and nine rated at three stars.
Leblanc is an interesting prospect that is only down the road in terms of whether he will end up as a defensive player, or by his size, will he end up moving inland. Either way, its tape says it will work just about anywhere.
The Sooners started the month ranked in the 40s for the 2023 class and are now finishing strong in the top ten, with perhaps more good news coming in August.
Leblanc is the second four-star commitment of the week, joining Spanaway (Wash.) Lake Cornerback Jacia Wagner. And Leblanc is one method of closure.
