In a stunning move, director Quentin Tarantino has reportedly decided not to continue with The Movie Critic, Didin Reports. Instead, Tarantino will reportedly go back to the drawing board to decide what his final film will be, leaving The Movie Critic alongside his many other ideas that never came to fruition.
The news was later confirmed by Variety. IGN has reached out to Sony Pictures as well as Tarantino's representatives for comment.
Deadline reports that Tarantino has abandoned the film, which was reportedly set to star Brad Pitt, after “changing his mind.” According to Tarantino, it was originally supposed to be based on a real-life writer whose reviews were a cross between “early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle would say.” [Robert DeNiro’s character in Taxi Driver] Maybe if he was a film critic.”
The film underwent various rewrites until 2023, delaying production. Then, suddenly, Tarantino seemingly decided to change course and move on. This is certainly not the first time Tarantino has abandoned an idea he promoted. Various ideas that Tarantino has floated over the years to be abandoned include an R-rated Star Trek movie, a third Kill Bill movie, and more.
There's still a chance Tarantino could return to the concept, as he did with The Hateful Eight, but for now he seems to be moving on to other ideas.
