Raffle tickets now on sale to save Madeira Terraces
The ‘Save Madeira Terraces Raffle Group’ is organising a third fundraising raffle to raise awareness and collect funds for the restoration of the Madeira Terraces on Madeira Drive.
So far, the group has already organised two raffles which have proven to be extremely popular. The list of prizes to be won is large and varied, and on this third raffle people could win gift vouchers, free meals and even flight tickets.
The first fundraising event took place in 2017. It was organised by Kemptown residents who wanted to raise awareness on the decaying state of the Madeira Terraces.
Derek Wright, one of the organisers and admins of the ‘Save Madeira Terraces Raffle Group, said: “We organised the raffle ourselves through the Facebook group, and it became Brighton’s biggest raffle.
“Businesses and residents donated 630 prizes ranging from a holiday in the USA, flight from Shoreham airport to handmade soaps. We sold 17,600 tickets at £1 each by ourselves and through over fifty outlets in Brighton and Hove, including Saltdean, Portslade, Patcham and Rottingdean.
“It raised £17,600 which went towards the crowd funding that was going on at the time. That enabled it to reach its target of nearly half a million pounds.
“After the raffle was drawn, people still wanted to buy raffle tickets and prizes were still coming in. So due to public demand we organised a second raffle in June and called it a Midsummer Raffle. This had 830 prizes and raised £9,000.”
The next raffle will take place on Friday 30 August at The Cricketers, Brighton’s oldest pub.
The group is aiming to have over 1,000 prizes for this raffle. If you would like to donate or buy tickets, you can get in touch with the group through their Facebook page.
