Rookie QB Performance Ranking in Week 3 of Preseason: Drake May shines, Jake Plummer’s son could earn roster spot

The last week of NFL Preseason It’s basically a last chance for players to get some game tapes, and another chance to prove they belong. National Football League This also applies to rookie quarterbacks, especially those who were selected on Day 3 or not selected.

Most Day 3 picks typically have a guaranteed roster spot, but players who aren’t selected have a hard time making it. Finding a quarterback spot isn’t easy, as most teams usually have their quarterback setups ready. That’s where the final week of the preseason becomes crucial.

In the final week of the preseason, we’ll be ranking the best rookie quarterback performances in Week 3. Who impressed the most?

Note: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix and Bo Nix did not play in the game, while JJ McCarthy and Jordan Travis were injured.

1. Drake May (New England Patriots)

If there was ever a night for May to prove he deserves to be the Patriots’ starting quarterback in Week 1, Sunday was his night to shine. May finished 13 of 20 attempts for 126 yards and a score in the first half, replacing Jacoby Brissett after one series.

May has an amazing arm talent, but his decision-making still needs some work. That doesn’t help the Patriots, who don’t have the best offensive line. Overall, May had a solid night, even with the steep learning curve ahead of him.

The best performance by any rookie quarterback in the final week of the preseason belongs to Plummer. Jack Plummer, the son of former NFL quarterback Jake Plummer, completed 21 of 29 attempts for 278 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions (125.4 rating), replacing Bryce Young after a series of games.

Plummer threw a 15-yard pass to Terrence Marshall and a 36-yard touchdown to Jalen Coker. Plummer was locked in as Carolina’s No. 3 quarterback.

The fifth-round pick impressed in the final game of the preseason, completing 7-of-13 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown (106.2 rating). Rattler’s 21-yard pass to Equanimus St. Brown was his highlight, as the Saints scored on Rattler’s final two possessions.

Rattler has a chance to be Jake Hayner’s second-string quarterback in New Orleans.

The series was split between Pratt and Sean Clifford in the Packers’ final preseason game, with the seventh-round pick going 8-of-12 for 80 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. His touchdown pass was a 19-yard toss to Bo Milton in the second quarter.

Pratt is still in a battle with Clifford for the QB2 job, which hasn’t helped or hurt his chances.

If there was a spot on the Bears’ coaching staff for Reed, he made a case for one of the 16 spots. Reed played the entire second half of Chicago’s preseason finale, completing 8 of 10 attempts for 63 yards and a touchdown (126.2 rating). The undrafted rookie threw a 6-yard pass to Tommy Sweeney in the third quarter as the Bears scored a touchdown in their first two games.

Chicago has Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent, but there may be a spot on the practice squad for Reed.

Benn had a great performance for the Colts in the preseason finale, completing 4-of-4 for 52 yards (118.8 rating). He also scored a rushing touchdown on one play. The player who wasn’t selected as a free agent will likely end up on the Colts’ practice squad.

Bradley played the entire second half for the Raiders in the final preseason game, as the Raiders scored two touchdowns on six attempts. Bradley finished 9 of 21 attempts for 169 yards with a score and an interception (67.4 rating).

Despite not being selected, Bradley will likely end up on the practice squad.

Beasley did not enter the game until the second half, where he made 5 of 11 attempts for 65 yards (68.4 rating). The New York Jets punted on Beasley’s first five attempts, and he failed to make a field goal in the sixth.

Beasley, who was not selected, is competing with Adrian Martinez for a spot in the cornerback room while Jordan Travis remains on the non-football injury list.

Slovis didn’t enter until the fourth quarter of the Colts’ final preseason game, where he made 5-of-6 attempts for 31 yards. The Colts let Slovis, who wasn’t drafted, go Sunday in a wave of initial cuts. Slovis was fifth on the depth list.

Leary had the worst performance among quarterbacks in Week 3 of the preseason, completing 6 of 13 passes for 34 yards and two interceptions (13.5 rating). The sixth-round pick is projected to be Baltimore’s No. 3 quarterback.
