Sam Rubin’s son Colby shares a touching tribute to his father on the KTLA morning news

There has been an outpouring of love over the past few days following the sudden death of KTLA entertainment journalist Sam Rubin on Friday, and Rubin’s son, Colby, added his voice to the chorus this morning.

Colby joined the KTLA 5 Morning News with a four-minute tribute to his father that spoke directly to the camera. In it, he recalls his father’s support of his ambitious theatrical ambitions, their trips to Disneyland, Boy Scout meetings together, and even time shared on visits to his physical therapist.

“I adored you. You’re my hero and always will be,” he said. “I never should have told you that, and I’m so sorry, Daddy.”

Colby also shared on screen a text exchange with his father in which he told his father that he couldn’t continue with a certain theater show because someone criticized him. “I just lost my confidence,” Colby wrote.

Robin responded, “Ignore the hype. You’ll get bad reviews for every show… Most kids probably feel the same way… But everyone will dig deep and do a great job. You have excellent genes. You have every gift. Respect your own talent.”
