Taylor Swift will be the next mayor of Santa Clara.
Well sort of.
On Tuesday, the city council will announce Swift as honorary mayor and name Santa Clara “Swifty Clara,” while the long-awaited Iras concert will make stops at Levi’s Stadium on July 28 and July 29.
“Taylor Swift is coming to Santa Clara for the third time, and this time we wanted to honor her in a respectful way, so we’ve made an announcement and are showing our fast spirit on the Eras Tour,” said Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gilmore.
Santa Clara isn’t the first city to get caught up in the Swiftie Stream. As the tour crossed America, cities did everything from official announcements to renaming streets as a way to highlight the artist.
There’s a pragmatic reason for all the honorary titles, said Harbir Bhatia, CEO of the Silicon Valley Central Chamber of Commerce — it makes a big buzz around town.
“When we give her this honor these two days, it shows that she is coming to Santa Clara,” said Bhatia. “Not Los Angeles or San Francisco, but Santa Clara.”
