Savannah Guthrie appears to have hinted that her time on the “Today” show may be coming to an end after Hoda Kotb announced her departure from the morning show.
“We are dear friends and have a lot of similarities,” she said. He told Us Weekly on Thursday at the Healthy Minds Project’s second World Mental Health Day gala in New York City while speaking about the co-anchor’s passing.
“We’re basically in the same stage of life,” she added, apparently referring to a possible exit for herself.
Page Six has reached out to Guthrie’s representative to clarify her comment.
Guthrie, 52, has been with NBC since 2007 when she became a legal correspondent and appeared on the “Today” and “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” shows.
From there, she became a White House correspondent for NBC and hosted the Daily Rundown from 2010 to 2011.
She joined the “Today” crew in 2012 as co-host of the third hour of the show.
Her possible prediction about her future came during the morning news broadcast after a show insider told Page Six that “no one at NBC wants to leave Savannah.”
Our source added: “I think if bosses had their way she would be here for life.” “She is the beating heart of TODAY – there is so much support for her.”
The TV insider also noted that “there was talk that Savannah was planning her exit” for 2025, but Kotb’s announcement “made that impossible.”
While speaking about Kotb’s exit with Page Six at a World Mental Health Day gala on Thursday, Guthrie said she had mixed emotions when she heard the big news.
“It’s complicated because, like, I’m so happy for her and I’m so proud of her as a friend because she follows her heart and that’s a big sign of confidence in herself and her future and not because she knows what’s going to happen. It’s only because she believes in herself and trusts her intuition,” she explained.
“As her friend, I love it,” she added. “As her morning partner, I will miss her.”
“I’m really going to miss her. We all will, you know? To me, she’s irreplaceable.”
However, Guthrie seemed grateful that Kotb would still be working with NBC once she left the “Today” show.
“We are a family and she is not going away. She will stay with NBC. We will be able to see her,” she said.
It’s not clear what Kotb’s next career move will involve.
An insider told Page Six before Kotb’s announcement that she wanted to spend more time with her daughters, Halle, 7, and Hope, 4.
They explained: “It is heartbreaking for everyone, but Hoda wants to be able to take her children to school.”
