Gaming streamer Herschel “Guy” Beahm, known online as Dr Disrespect, has been terminated from his gaming company “effective immediately” after it said it “became aware of the allegation” against him.

The decision by Midnight Society – which Bem co-founded – comes four years after he was abruptly kicked out of the streaming platform Twitch, where he had a large following.

The reason for its removal was never explained, with the Amazon-owned platform only saying it acted when users broke the rules.

In a social media post, Beam denied any wrongdoing, but admitted sending messages to an “individual minor” in 2017.

“If there are real intentions behind these messages, the answer is definitely no,” he wrote in a post on X, describing them as “casual, back-and-forth conversations that sometimes lean too far toward being inappropriate.”

“Nothing illegal happened, no photos were shared, no crimes were committed, and I have never met this person,” he said.

“Let me be clear, this was not a criminal case against me and no criminal charges were ever brought against me.”

But he apologized “to his community and colleagues” for his actions.

“This falls on me as an adult, husband and father… This should never have happened,” he wrote.

sudden exit

Beahm’s departure from Twitch made headlines because it was so sudden and largely unexplained.

In 2020, the platform told the BBC: “We take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our community guidelines or terms of service.”

He has been streaming on YouTube since being banned from Twitch, and has over 4.7 million subscribers.

On Monday, Midnight Society posted on X (formerly Twitter): “On Friday evening, we learned of an allegation against one of our co-founders. [sic] Jay Beam also known as Dr. Disrespect.”

She added: “We assumed his innocence and began talking to the parties involved. In order to maintain our principles and standards as a studio and individuals, we needed to take action.”

The studio did not go into further details about what this allegation is.

Technology news outlet The Verge reported That two former Twitch employees alleged inappropriate behavior from Mr. Beahm.

BBC News has contacted the Midnight Society, Twitch and YouTube for comment.

The Dr Disrespect character is popular with fans due to his frenetic playing style and aggressive – sometimes rude – comments.

He’s bragging and bragging about his rivals, and is prone to sniping at his fans as well, who relish the opportunity to be roasted by him live.

In a live broadcast on Monday ahead of the Midnight Assembly announcement, Beam suggested he would take an extended break.

He spoke of burnout and “burnout”, and considered whether he should “walk away” from his business ventures.

Trump did not directly address these accusations, but he said that perhaps it was time to try something new.
