The Chicago Red Stars will have to postpone their September 21 home game against the San Diego Wave due to playing Riot Fest at SeatGeek Stadium from September 20-22. The music festival is historically held in Douglas Park and was originally scheduled to be held there, but festival organizers announced Wednesday morning that it would be held there. Red Stars president Karen Lizzo publicly expressed her disappointment with the decision.
She said in an official statement: “It is unfair and unfortunate to put our club in this situation, which highlights the vast contradictions in the treatment of women’s professional sports versus men’s professional sports.” “We are committed to ensuring our players and fans have a first-class experience on and off the field, and are working hard to find a solution that will ensure the success of our match on September 21.”

The Red Stars are trying to build their fan base this year after an off-season ownership change. Last week, the Red Stars played a single-game homestand at Wrigley Field that attracted an attendance of 35,038, setting a new regular-season single-game attendance record.
