Cadillac has launched a new electric convertible that’s longer than some SUVs, has giant infotainment screens from pillar to pillar, and can keep you cool all summer long with a back-seat fridge.
It is called Sollei, and it is New concept of electric vehicle This car looks like a convertible version of Cadillac’s bespoke Celestiq—the automaker’s answer to exclusive luxury vehicles like Rolls-Royce. The new car transforms the $340,000 full-size electric sedan into a “Manila Cream” coupe that attempts to evoke the sun with ray patterns emanating from the center of each seat and the wood panels in the back.
The Sollei was displayed at the Cadillac House at Vanderbilt in Warren, Michigan — the same place where wealthy customers go to pick up leather and other materials when purchasing a handcrafted Celestiq. However, the Sollei takes a different, more sustainable approach to materials, such as using biodegradable mushroom-based fungi instead of leather. There are still leather-trimmed accessories designed for the car, including a bird call kit and a leather magazine that matches the color of the car.
The Sollei is clearly based on the Celestiq, as it shares a similar 55-inch infotainment screen and moving LED interface as the Celestiq. In a full walkthrough videoThe Car Buyer’s Guide says the Sollei “harkens back to Cadillac’s roots as a purveyor of ultra-luxury vehicles.” Cadillac sees the Sollei as a vehicle that “pushes the boundaries of future custom commissions,” though it doesn’t plan to sell the concept as it does the Celestiq.
