United later confirmed that one of the plane’s wheels came off at 7 a.m. as Flight 1001 departed Los Angeles International Airport for Denver. Fortunately, the plane landed safely in Denver about three hours later. No crew or passengers were injured.

In a very similar incident in March, a Boeing 777-200 bound for Osaka, Japan, lost a wheel after taking off from San Francisco. The plane had to divert to Los Angeles International Airport, where it landed safely. The loose tire damaged several vehicles in the airport parking lot.

Boeing agrees to plead guilty to criminal fraud charge

Years of investigations, lawsuits and whistleblower testimony have left Boeing’s reputation in tatters. Now, the company has agreed to plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge related to two 737 Max crashes. This comes after the government said the company violated an agreement that protected it from prosecution for more than three years, according to the Justice Department.

“We can confirm that we have reached an agreement in principle on the terms of a resolution with the Department of Justice, subject to the enactment and approval of certain conditions,” Boeing said in a statement to ABC News.

The agreement stipulates that the company will be required to pay the maximum legal penalty and will have to invest at least $455 million in compliance and safety programs. However, for the agreement to go into effect, it will need to be approved by a federal judge.
