Chicago (WLS) – Two Chicago hospitals were named among the top 20 in the country in the “Honor Roll Hospitals Best” published Tuesday in… US news and world report.
The honor list highlights 20 hospitals that excel in most or all types of care, evaluated by US News. Northwestern Memorial is ranked 9th, while Rush University Medical Center ranks 20th in the country.
Mayo Clinic in Minnesota ranked first, followed by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, NYU Langone Hospitals in New York, Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

More than 4,500 hospitals nationwide have been analyzed and categorized into 15 specialties, 20 procedures and conditions.
The University of Chicago Medical Center is ranked among the best in 10 specialties, with four of them ranked 20th. The University of Chicago is ranked in the following specialties: Cancer (ranked 14), Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery (ranked 44), Diabetes and Endocrinology (ranked 17), Ear, Nose and Throat (ranked 49), Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery (ranked 14), Geriatrics (ranks 47), neurology and neurosurgery (ranks 45), gynecology and obstetrics (ranks 16), pulmonology and lung surgery (ranks 38) and urology (ranks 31).
The North Shore University Health System has also been ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the country for orthopedics (29) and diabetes and diseases of the endocrine glands (ranked 18th) and urology (ranked 46th).
In Illinois, Rush ranks among the top hospitals for four specialties: gynecology, orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, and ENT.
Rush also ranks among the top specialties nationwide in 10 of the 15 specialties ranked: neurology and neurosurgery (4th in the country, first in Illinois); Orthopedic surgery (5th in the country, 1st in Illinois); Gynecology – (13th in the country, 1st in Illinois); Geriatrics (14th in the country); Urology (14th in the country); Pulmonology and Lung Surgery (20th in the country), Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery (25th in the country); Cancer (31st place in the country); ear and nose and laryngology (ranked 34th in the country, first in Illinois), and gastroenterology and gastroenterology (ranked 40th in the country).
Advocate Christ Medical Center ranked 42nd in the country in cardiology and cardiac surgery and 29th in obstetrics gynecological diseases; Lutheran ranks 40th in pulmonology and lung surgery. The Good Samaritan ranks 43rd in orthopedics. Illinois Freemasonry is ranked 44th in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; Saint Luke ranked 50th in obstetrics and gynecological diseases.
Advocate Children’s Hospital has been named the 34th program for pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery in the nation, and is also the 3rd among children’s hospitals in Illinois.
Several Northwestern Medicine hospitals have been recognized as the best hospitals in metro Chicago and Illinois, including: Northwestern Medicine McHenry, Huntley, and Woodstock which is ranked 9 in metro Chicago and 9 in Illinois. Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital and Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital are tied with both being ranked 12th in metro Chicago and 12th in Illinois; Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital is ranked 14th in Chicago and 14th in Illinois, while Delnor Hospital ranks 18th in Metro Chicago and 20th in Illinois.
Eight of Advocate Aurora Health’s hospitals are also ranked among the top 25 hospitals in Illinois: Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Condell Medical Center, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Advocate Sherman Hospital and Trinity Lawyer Hospital.
