Legendary investor Warren Buffett is the sixth richest person in the world. He is also its biggest benefactor.
This week, the “Oracle of Omaha” donated $4.6 billion in equity from Berkshire Hathaway, extending its long-standing tradition of summer giveaways.
Just how much does Buffett give to charity? Since 2006, he has donated $51.5 billion, making him the top of Forbes 2023 list of America’s Best Philanthropists.
Even after giving away tens of billions, Forbes says Buffett – who has an estimated net worth of more than $100 billion – is More than twice as rich as he was 17 years agoThanks to a 450% increase in Berkshire Hathaway shares.

Buffett teamed up with Melinda French Gates and Bill Gates’ ex-wife to create the Giving Pledge and pledged to donate nearly all of his wealth to charity.
Who are the lucky recipients of Buffett’s latest largesse?
- The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has acquired $3.5 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock.
- The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, which was founded by his late wife, has earned $350 million.
- His three sons founded $250 million each.
Buffet is not over yet. He has billions more stored in five institutions and has his own 15% stake in Berkshire Hathaway, one of the most valuable companies in the world.
“My will states that more than 99% of my estate is for charitable use,” Buffett said.
Forbes estimates that Buffett’s total giving could eventually exceed $160 billion.
