With the Summer months upon us there’s a lot of talk about what trend pieces you’ll need in your wardrobe, (we’ll admit we even joined in with it). With fashion constantly changing it can be hard to decipher what you really need from what you might fancy. So here’s what we think every woman should have in her wardrobe, no matter the season.
1. A Plain White Tee
V-neck, crew cut, boyfriend or fitted – every girl needs a plain white tee in her wardrobe. A comfy, casual staple that can be dressed up or down, it’s pretty much an essential whatever the weather. Pair with fitted jeans, ankle boots and a leather jacket for a simple yet classy look or simply throw on some kicks for a more relaxed look.
It’s cliche but true, every woman needs a little black dress that makes her feel confident as can be. Find the fit you feel is most flattering and timeless and you really can’t go wrong. Add pops of colour with statement bags, jewellery or shoes to add some pizzazz to a simple look.
3. Ankle Boots
Another staple come rain or shine are definitely a good quality pair of ankle boots. Whether you prefer heeled or not, ankle boots are universally flattering and wearable. Pair with jeans and a white tee for a basic look or with a fitted skirt and bodysuit for a sexier look. However you wear them they’re guaranteed to elevate any simple outfit.
4. (Faux) Leather Jacket
Trends come and go but the leather jacket has been a wardrobe essential for many moons. Whether you prefer cropped, fitted or biker (pictured), you need a leather jacket. In Winter they can be layered on top of jumpers for a cosy, effortless look and in Summer, draped over your shoulders to cover that LBD in the cooler evenings…
5. Well Fitting Jeans
I’m sure most women own a pair of jeans but the question is, are they properly fitting? Well tailored jeans can make or break an outfit. I’m by no means suggesting that you ought to go out, find a tailor and have them match your measurements exactly but it is a good idea to spend time shopping around to find the right fit. Try before you buy and make sure you find a pair that make you feel confident! Decide if you’ll get the most wear out of blue or black (obviously it’s ideal to have both but not essential), pair with a tucked tee, boots or converse and you’re done.
6. Statement Sunglasses
Statement sunglasses doesn’t have to mean brightly coloured frames or garish patterns. Simply find some that suit your face, you feel good on and can add a little something-something to a simple outfit. Maybe you like oversized sunnies or super reflective lenses? Statement sunglasses are a simple way to make a “boring”outfit more exciting.
7. A Belt
Statement or not, a belt is a great way to tie together any ‘fit. Go for black or brown to optimise wearability. Look out for ornate buckles, studs or etchings if you want something a little more exciting.
8. A Classic Handbag
For easy outfit elevation, invest in a good quality handbag that will stand the test of time. Statement handbags can definitely be fun and shouldn’t be ignored but when it comes to essentials you want one that can be paired with anything that you may throw on. Faux leather bags are usually best as they can handle a little wear and tear and always look chic. Opt for a classic black flap or a neutral colour (as pictured) to ensure your bag will fit with your other wardrobe essentials. Look out for gold furnishings and chunky chains for an extra expensive look.
