You may have read previously on here about the campaign started by Brighton and Hove citizens to save George Street from becoming a ghost town.
The once bustling street was seeing a lack in footfall due to the pedestrian zone hours being open unnecessarily late. This was causing local businesses to shut down and therefore 74.1% of 1,293 citizens that voted in a poll decided that the street should be used as a pedestrian only zone all year round between 10am and 3pm.
As it turns out, the campaign was a success!
Brighton and Hove City Council’s enviroment, transport and sustainability committee approved the decision yesterday, and will be running a trial period from the 1st of April next year.
