What To Do With The Kids! – This Week 21st-24th December

The Christmas holidays have begun! Keeping excited children entertained during the last few days in the run up to Christmas can be tricky, but the mild weather and the fact that we live in Brighton makes it just that little bit easier. There are so many things on this week to keep the children entertained and to get you in the Christmas mood.

12 Days of Fishmas at the Sealife Centre: Until the 24th of December the Sealife Centre are putting on special Christmas events, otherwise known as the 12 Days of Fishmas. You can spot their very own Elf on the Shelf (to make sure the fish are behaving themselves of course) and at certain times during the day you can feed the sea turtles Brussel sprouts (because they’re the only ones that will eat them). There are also Christmas colouring worksheets and hot chocolate and mince pies being sold in the café.

A Winters Trail, Theatre Royal: The Theatre Royal has been transformed into a stunning winter wonderland and has become the setting for a Christmassy puppet show. Join the Fairy Detective Agency on their mission to find the missing Theatre Elf. Let yourself be led on a journey through the venue’s ‘secret spaces’ and explore the festive landscape. Suitable for children aged 3-7, it’s the perfect Christmas treat. Find out more here.

Christmas Events at the Wyevale Garden Centre: Every day this week there are lots of Christmassy goings on at the Wyevale Garden Centre. Open from 10am-6pm drop by for Elf Workshops, and even the chance to have breakfast or tea with Santa! Find out more here.

Christmas Pudding Factory at Churchill Square: Take your child to meet Father Christmas, who is currently residing in a Christmas Pudding in Churchill Square. Whilst his sleigh is having its MOT all ready for Christmas Eve, he is taking time out of his busy schedule to have his photo taken with the lovely children of Brighton. There are games, activities and workshops such as learning the dance of the Pudding Plum Fairy, ‘caroloke’ and a chance to meet the helpers, Figbert and Brandy. Not only will it be great fun for your kids, but it also gives you a chance to run off and do that extra bit of Christmas shopping. It’s open daily from 10am – 6pm and 12pm-4pm Christmas Eve.

Flyaway Katie: From the makers of Shoe Baby, Arthur’s Dream Boats and Long Nose Puppets, Flyaway Katie is a wonderful puppet show perfect for children aged 2 through to 7. Katie is all alone and wishes she could be as bright as the birds in the picture on her wall. This colourful puppet show will have children captivated, and there is even a chance to meet the puppets afterwards. Find out more here.
