She says: Addiction is a serious mental health condition that can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or nationality.

As a patron of The Forward Trust, I have met many people who have experienced the effects of addiction. Attitudes to addiction are changing.

But we’re not there yet, and we should be. The shame of addiction still prevents people and families from seeking help and people still tragically lose their lives.

Kate, who is the mother of George, Charlotte and Louis, said society must realize that “the only way to help those who are struggling is to try and understand what led to their addiction.”

We as a society need to realize that the only way to help those who suffer is to try and understand what led to their addiction, empathize with them, and empathize with their struggles.
