Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilpon discuss why LIV Golf’s deal with The CW Network puts the tour in a position to succeed.

The LIV Golf League announced its final four rosters of teams on Monday, the Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC is undergoing a makeover as the circuit is set to begin its second season this week.

Mickelson’s team has two new members joining Cameron Triangle: three-time PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele and James Piot, who won the 2021 US Amateur title and jumped into LIV Golf after leaving Michigan State last year.

Steele and Biot replaced Bernd Weisberger and Matthew Wolff in Mickelson’s squad. Wiesberger joined Martin Kaymer Cleeks GC and Wolff is part of Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC this year.

RangeGoats GC’s Bubba Watson added DP World Tour star Thomas Pieters, who is ranked 35th in the world. Team Watson also includes Harold Varner III and Talor Gooch, who helped the 4Aces win the team championship last year. Watson did not play last season while recovering from an injury.

Kevin Na’s Iron Heads GC has two new players: former PGA Tour winner Danny Lee and Scott Vincent, who played for four LIV golf teams last season.

Dean Burmeister, a two-time DP World Tour winner and PGA Tour rookie this season, is the latest addition to Louis Oosthuizen’s Stinger GC. Each of the four players on the Oosthuizen team is from South Africa. Branden Grace and 2011 Masters champion Charles Schwartzell are the others.

The other eight LIV teams were announced earlier this month.

Hudson Swafford, who played most of last season with Niblicks GC (now RangeGoats GC), has announced he will miss Season 2 of LIV Golf with a hip injury. Swafford has won three times on the PGA Tour, including the 2022 American Express.

“I’ve been struggling with a hip injury that has caused a downturn in my performance on the course,” Swafford wrote in an Instagram post. “After consulting with a specialist, I was sadly advised that my best option for an optimal recovery was to undergo surgery.”

LIV season begins in Mayakoba, Mexico, on Friday.
