Disneyland releases Pride Nite amid Bob Iger’s ongoing war with Ron DeSantis in Florida

Disneyland unveiled its gay-friendly “Pride Nite” event in June after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis escalated his fight against the progressive entertainment giant.

The $119-ticket party announced on Twitter Monday afternoon, just moments after a press conference featuring DeSantis. He threatened to build a state prison next to Walt Disney World and Reedy Creek.

The move was in retaliation after the entertainment giant tried to circumvent the authority of its oversight board. Disney found itself in DeSantis’ sights last year after ousted CEO Bob Chapek criticized Florida’s parental rights to education law — better known as the “Don’t Say Like Me” law.

According to Disney, characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse will be wearing special rainbow costumes at the event to celebrate all things LGBTQ.

Pride Nite will take place at Disney’s original theme park in liberal Anaheim, California, thousands of miles from the mega Orlando resort that is within DeSantis’ crosshairs.

But some questioned whether Pride Nite was designed to further inflame tensions, even though Disney has long held “Gay Days” for LGBT fans at its theme parks in the US.

Ron brought a plastic fork to a nuclear fight. A Twitter person while quoting the ad said: The Mouse is an IP that runs a theme park.

Another person online said: “DeSantis says he will build a prison to punish Disney. Disney announces Pride Night. Would love to see DeSantis’ face next! ”

Not all social media was supportive of Disney’s announcement.

Add Disney to the list of companies that have woken up the boycott. And ** the king of the pride of the night. Oh my God. Walt is rolling in his grave,” wrote one angry Twitter user.

Another person wrote: “Why is Disney not getting my money anymore?”

“I’m sure the eccentric Disney adults will love this,” said one user.

Disney’s battle with Florida first began in 2022 when company officials spoke out against the then-proposed “Don’t Say Jay” bill.

Current law prohibits the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity to children in Florida schools through the third grade.

Former CEO Bob Chapek responded to the bill and said at the time that he had contacted DeSantis to “express our disappointment and concern.”

In response, Florida Republicans dissolved the state’s tax district.

Even though Pride Nite is taking place on the other side of the country, Twitter users weren’t convinced that the ad had nothing to do with the current controversy happening in Florida.

“This is Disney standing up to Florida’s radical governor,” wrote actor Stephen Pascual.

Someone joked, “The fireworks will be so big and perfect that they will cover the coup d’état that Disney launched in Tallahassee.” “The last thing Meatball Ron hears is ‘Oh Gorsh’ before Goofy shows him the true meaning of Hush Puppy.”

The California theme park’s “Pride Nite” festivities will take place on June 13 and June 15 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets cost $139.

The event – part of Disneyland After Dark – goes on sale April 20.

Disneyland officials said a dance party with characters dressed in “special costumes” and other photo opportunities with “pride-themed backdrops” will be offered.
