Google Cloud is expanding its push into industry-specific artificial intelligence with the launch of Gemini Enterprise for Legal, a new agentic AI platform designed to help law firms and corporate legal departments automate complex workflows while maintaining confidentiality, governance and access controls.
The company unveiled the platform in Sunnyvale, California, on August 25, 2026, initially making it available in preview. Launch customers include legal teams at Cleary, Freshfields, Weil, and Williams & Connolly.
Google Cloud Targets Specialized Legal AI
Gemini Enterprise for Legal is designed specifically for the requirements of professional legal work rather than functioning as a general-purpose AI assistant.
The platform combines specialized legal skills, connections to legal technology systems, third-party AI agents and Google’s underlying Gemini Enterprise infrastructure. Google Cloud is positioning the product as a way for attorneys to automate workflows such as contract review, due diligence, regulatory monitoring and privacy requests.
The legal offering, alongside Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services, represents the first wave of industry-specific solutions Google Cloud is building on its broader Gemini Enterprise platform.
Legal organizations present particular challenges for AI adoption because firms must maintain client confidentiality, ethical walls, verified legal authority and strict separation of sensitive information.
Google says its legal platform can inherit existing permissions through connections to document and matter management systems. Research results can also be grounded in primary legal authorities rather than relying solely on information contained in AI training data.

Gemini Enterprise for Legal Adds Specialized Tools and Connectors
The platform is organized around four primary components: specialized legal-agent skills, integrations with legal technology platforms, a third-party partner ecosystem and centralized security and governance capabilities.
AI Skills Cover Contracts, Legal Research and Compliance
Specialized skills are designed to guide AI agents through tasks including legal brief drafting, citation verification, contract lifecycle management, regulatory monitoring and Data Subject Access Request, or DSAR, fulfillment.
Google Cloud is also providing Model Context Protocol integrations with legal technology and information platforms including Courtroom5, Docusign, Everlaw, Free Law Project’s CourtListener.com database, Harvey, iManage, Legora, NetDocuments, RelativityOne, Solve Intelligence and Thomson Reuters.
Its broader partner ecosystem includes Accenture, Deloitte, Devoteam, Eudia, Factor Law, KPMG, Tribe AI, Valtech, Zazmic, Zencore and 66degrees.
For corporate IT and risk departments, Gemini Enterprise provides centralized controls covering risk management, audit logging and governance.
Agentic AI Takes on End-to-End Legal Workflows
Rather than limiting the system to generating text or summarizing documents, Google Cloud is emphasizing the ability of AI agents to carry out multi-step legal workflows.
The system can monitor legislation, court dockets and regulatory authorities and compare emerging requirements against an organization’s existing policies. It can then identify potential compliance gaps and prepare updated policy drafts for review by legal professionals.
For privacy teams, the platform is designed to gather personal information stored across multiple enterprise systems to accelerate DSAR responses.
Contract teams can use the technology to compare vendor agreements, nondisclosure agreements and merger-and-acquisition documents against internal playbooks. The system can identify potentially risky clauses and highlight areas requiring attorney review.
Gemini Enterprise for Legal can also analyze historical contracts to extract preferred terms, fallback positions and institutional knowledge for contracting playbooks.
Other capabilities include assisting with motions to seal by identifying sensitive information and personally identifiable information for review, as well as generating NDA documents while maintaining established formatting and document structures.
Google Emphasizes Security for Law Firms
Security and data governance are central to Google’s pitch to the legal industry. The company says client data, prompts and AI-generated outputs remain within an organization’s private cloud perimeter, while base models are not trained on customer data. Existing user permissions can also carry over through direct integrations.
Several major law firms participating in the platform’s early adoption highlighted integration and governance as key considerations.
