Christopher Nolan recalls casting Cillian Murphy as the Scarecrow, not Batman, in ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy – Deadline

Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan reunited again for the Oppenheimer The duo recalls their previous collaboration in Batman begins.

In an interview with EWNolan recalled seeing Murphy in the paper talking about him after 28 days He was intrigued by his looks and screen-tested him for a DC movie.

Murphy said he didn’t feel like “Batman material” adding, “I felt it was right and true that it had to be Christian Bale for the part. But I remember the fuss of trying on the suit and being guided. Those auditions had high production values.”

“I think we both know you’re not going to end up playing Batman. But I really wanted to be with you, and I wanted to shoot you on film,” Nolan said. “We did these screen tests very elaborately, on 35mm, with a small group. There was an electric atmosphere in the crew when I started performing.”

Nolan continued, “We did a couple of scenes—there was a Bruce Wayne scene and a Batman scene—and I made sure the executives came down and saw what you were doing on set. Everyone was so excited to see you do that when I said to them afterwards, ‘Well, Christian Bale is Batman.'” But how about Silian playing the Scarecrow?” There was no opposition. All of the previous Batman villains have been played by major movie stars: Jack Nicholson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Carrey, that sort of thing.
