Jesse Malin says he’s paralyzed from the waist down after rare spinal stroke – Deadline

Rock star Jesse Malin talks about his health a month after suffering a spinal stroke that has now left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Mallen recently recalled the incident on May 4th. He said he was having dinner in New York City when he suffered a spinal cord stroke that caused him a burning pain in his lower back that then moved to his hips, thighs, and heels.

Everyone was standing over me as in Rosemary’s babyHe said all these different things, and I didn’t know what was going on with my body.” Rolling Stone in an interview.

He continued, “This is the hardest six weeks I’ve ever been through. I’m told they don’t really understand it, and they’re not sure of the chances. The reports from the doctors have been tough, and there are moments in the day when you want to cry, and where you feel scared. But I keep telling myself That I can make it happen. I can get my body back.”

Mallen maintains an optimistic outlook but says he has found it difficult to maintain a positive mindset. The musician’s recovery process consists of physical therapy and he is due to be discharged later this month.

“Just lying here and not being able to walk,” he said, “is very humbling.”

Mallen added, “Although I really think it’s a temporary condition, I’m not going to walk out of here tomorrow in a leather jacket and cane and go hang out at the pub. It’s going to take a lot of work and a lot of wheelchair sitting.”
