With the Philadelphia Phillies leading the NLCS 3-2 heading into Game 6, it was last chance time for the Diamondbacks. To keep their season alive, they needed to find a way to win at every opponent’s nightmare ballpark, Citizens Bank Park, where the Phillies were undefeated in the postseason.
Well, the Diamondbacks jumped on Philly starter Aaron Nola early, with a pair of solo home runs, a walk and a three-run double before there was an out in the second inning.
The Phillies struck back in the bottom of the second, cutting the deficit with an RBI single from Brandon Marsh that made it 3-1 Diamondbacks.
In the fifth, a single from Corbin Carroll and a triple from Ketel Marte got the run back for the Diamondbacks and ended Aaron Nola’s day in 4 1/3 innings, with six hits and four earned runs.
The D-backs printed another on singles from Perdomo and Marte in the seventh, making it 5-1 Diamondbacks.
Later, the ALCS in Texas comes to a close with a winner-take-all Game 7. The Texas Rangers evened the series against the Houston Astros with a 9-2 win on Sunday at Minute Maid Park. The road team won every game in the series. For Game 7, the Astros send Christian Javier to the mound, while the Rangers will start veteran Max Scherzer.
