Jets have until Wednesday to activate Aaron Rodgers off IR; The game against the Dolphins could affect the decision

Here are the scenarios for Sunday:

• If the Jets lose, they will be eliminated from the playoffs if either the Browns (vs. CHI), Texans (in TEN) or Bills (vs. DAL) win tomorrow. If that happens, Rodgers will likely not be activated and his season will be over. It’s such an amazing feat that he was so close to undergoing surgery on his Achilles tendon in September, but not enough to get him on the field.
• If the Jets win, their faint playoff hopes will still be alive at 6-8. At this point, the pendulum will likely swing in the other direction. Rodgers could be activated to the 53-man roster, but is unlikely to play next week. While the Jets’ Dec. 24 game against the Commanders has always been his goal, sources say that is still a long way off.

Sources also say Rodgers pushed it hard in practice this week, and will actively campaign to get on the field if the Jets have a pulse.

Even if the Jets do activate Rodgers, the most likely option is for him to either be inactive as the third quarterback (to allow him to watch the game in uniform) or just plain inactive.

Either way, Rodgers impressed those on the Jets staff who watched him on a daily basis.

Coach Robert Saleh indicated last week that Rodgers submitted to the position in training and ran from one training to another. It’s clearly getting better.

“I mean it seems normal to me, but it’s unbelievable,” Saleh said He said On December 15th. “This guy is trying so hard to redeem himself. It shows how much he cares, and I have appreciation for him.”
