Nintendo will join other video game publishers by holding a showcase in June to reveal upcoming games.
In a statement published by x/twitterNintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has announced a Nintendo Direct for June that will focus on Switch games scheduled for release during the latter half of 2024. However, the Direct will not mention the follow-up console to the Nintendo Switch that was just confirmed.
Hopefully, the Nintendo Direct will give Switch owners a clear idea of what to expect from the console’s twilight years as attention turns to Switch 2, which is said to be scheduled for release in the spring of 2025. While Nintendo has announced a number of games scheduled for release in the coming months, The lineup is yet to be determined for the rest of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025. “Going forward, we will continue to work to maximize software sales in an environment where many people continue to play Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo said in its financial report.
So what can we expect? Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is scheduled for release on May 23, and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD on June 27. Looking ahead, and with June Live in mind, Nintendo has Pokémon Legends: ZA for 2025, as well as Professor Layton and New World of Steam also scheduled for release that year. The long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 is still parked as a Switch game in Nintendo’s financial reports, despite having a “TBA” release window. Last week, Nintendo World Series: NES Edition appeared on the ESRB website with a review of the unannounced Switch game. Perhaps it will also be shown off during Nintendo Direct.
June looks set to be full of video game announcements, with the aforementioned Nintendo Direct joining Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase, Ubisoft Forward broadcast, Summer Game Fest, and of course, IGN Live.
