Ian McKellen was taken to hospital after collapsing while performing Monday night in London’s West End.

McKellen, 85 years old, A spokesman for McKellen and the play said in a statement that the child fell from the stage during a performance of “Player Kings” at the Noel Coward Theatre.

McKellen plays Sir John Falstaff in the new version of Shakespeare’s Henry IV, which began a 12-week run at the theater in April.

Medical professionals expect McKellen to make a quick and full recovery, according to the statement, which doctors determined “after an examination.”

The statement added that McKellen is in “good spirits.”

“Player Kings” will be canceled on Tuesday “so Ian can rest,” the statement said.

The statement also thanked “the two doctors, Rachel and Lee, who were present in the audience and all the workers at the place for their support.”

BBC reported That McKellen was performing a fight scene involving the Prince of Wales and Henry Percy when he lost his balance and fell from the front of the stage.

He screamed in pain, and staff rushed to help him when the house lights turned on above the stage, according to the BBC. The audience was told that the rest of the show was canceled and were evacuated from the theater.

McKellen appeared in a number of Shakespeare adaptations on screen and on stage during his decades-long acting career. He is perhaps best known as Gandalf in the films “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit.”

His acting credits also include roles in the films “X-Men,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Da Vinci Code.”
