Officials said three people were killed in Grenada and Carriacou and another in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Officials said two more deaths were reported in northern Venezuela, where five people were missing. About 25,000 people in that region were affected by heavy rains from Beryl. Environment Minister Kerryn James told The Associated Press that one death in Grenada occurred after a tree fell on a home. She said Carriacou and Petite Martinique suffered the most damage, with dozens of homes and businesses flattened in Carriacou. Grenada Prime Minister Deacon Mitchell said Tuesday that there was no power, roads were impassable and that the potential for a high death toll “remains a grim reality.” Current ThreatsOn Sunday night and Monday, there is a risk of life-threatening storm surge flooding from the northern entrance to Padre Island National Seashore to High Island, including Corpus Christi Bay, Matagorda Bay and Galveston Bay. First Landfall Beryl first made landfall in the Windward Islands late Monday morning as a Category 4 storm, the National Hurricane Center said. Deaths reported
At least 11 people have been killed in the Caribbean after Hurricane Beryl passed through the region.
Officials said three people died in Grenada and Carriacou and one in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Officials said two more people died in northern Venezuela, where five people were missing. About 25,000 people in that region were affected by heavy rains from Hurricane Beryl.
One death occurred after a tree fell on a house, Grenada’s Environment Minister Keren James told The Associated Press.
She said the towns of Carriacou and Petite Martinique were the hardest hit, with dozens of homes and businesses destroyed in Carriacou.
Grenada Prime Minister Deacon Mitchell said Tuesday there was no electricity, roads were impassable and the potential for a high death toll “remains a grim reality”.
Current Threats
