Round 1 – 3-2 win over Wanhao Zhou, China

Lee put the pressure on Zhou early on, forcing Zhou to use the time clock just a minute into the match. Lee hit a great solo shot from the right side and finished on the rim as time ran out, giving Lee a 3-0 lead with a drop point and the shot clock. Lee had locked the rim and grabbed it, but the referee blew the whistle for the ball to go out of play before Lee could pass the rim. Not much happened for the rest of the first period, and Spencer led 3-0 at the break.

Neither Lee nor Zhou showed much urgency early in the second period. Lee caught a Zhou shot and nearly hurt his ankle, but Zhou defended to preserve his team’s 3-0 lead. Zhou continued his conservative approach until with about 30 seconds left, he scored the opener. Zhou continued to advance, but never came close to taking Spencer down – Spencer lost another point after being booked, but he didn’t lose another point, preserving his 3-2 lead.

Quarter-final opponents – Bakzat Almaz Ulu, KGZ

Almaz Ulu has won the bronze medal at the U23 World Championship twice and defeated Kartbay last year (8-5). Moreover, Almaz Ulu also achieved a victory over Fito Araujao at the 2022 U23 World Championship. Almaz Ulu is tough and should be a good test for Lee.

Semi-final opponent – Gulumjon Abdullayev, Uzbekistan

At the Tokyo Olympics, Gulumjon Abdullaev was less than 10 seconds away from defeating eventual champion Zaur Oguev but ended up losing 8-6 after allowing a four-point inside trip. Thomas Gilman then defeated Abdullaev 11-1 in wrestling matches at the Tokyo Olympics. Despite losing to Gilman, this close win over Oguev was no fluke for Abdullaev. He has notable wins over Aman, Ravi Kumar and Wanhao Zhou. Abdullaev also had a great quarterfinal match against three-time world bronze medalist Arsen Harutyunyan of Armenia. In that match, Abdullaev won by a dominant 12-5 decision. Abdullaev has lacked consistency in his career and has never won a medal at a world championship or Olympics.
