The United States has already put its stake in the ground as it seeks to continue its quarter-century of dominance this week in the 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal. While the Americans have lifted nine straight titles in the event, the international team has yet to capture the Presidents’ Cup for themselves since 1998.

Whether there will be a change of tack this week depends entirely on the performance of the younger American team against a more experienced host who should have encouraging sentiment on their side. However, the early returns are good, as the Americans completed just the seventh Presidents Cup round in the event’s history on Thursday, and held a nearly insurmountable 5-0 lead entering Friday.

The United States boasts Scottie Schauffler and Xander Schauffele, the two best players in the world at the conclusion of the 2024 season. While Schauffele was solid in the Presidents Cup, Schauffler has noticeably struggled in team competition. The Americans also enter Wyndham Clarke, Sahith Thejala, Brian Harman and Russell Henley for the first time alongside Max Homa, who has struggled this season but is unbeaten in the Presidents Cup.

Adam Scott leads the international team, which is playing in its 11th Presidents Cup. Only Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim have winning marks in this competition with more than one Presidents Cup appearance to their name, while Mackenzie Hughes and Min Woo Lee are competing for the first time.

No matter how things go at Royal Montreal, the Presidents Cup will still be a lot of fun. International team competitions typically see rowdy crowds, and there’s no reason to expect anything different this year in Canada.
