ASUS Unveils ROG Strix SCAR 18 With 240Hz Mini LED Display and RTX 5090 Graphics

ASUS Targets High-End PC Gamers With New Flagship Laptop

Gaming hardware manufacturer ASUS has introduced its latest premium gaming laptop, the ROG Strix SCAR 18, featuring top-tier hardware designed for enthusiast gamers and content creators. The new model combines Intel’s latest mobile processor lineup with NVIDIA’s flagship laptop graphics, aiming to deliver desktop-class gaming performance in a portable form factor.

The company says the device is the first 18-inch gaming laptop to feature a 240Hz Mini LED display paired with ROG Nebula ELMB technology, a feature designed to improve motion clarity during fast-paced gameplay.

ROG Strix SCAR 18 Features Intel Core Ultra 9 and RTX 5090

The new ROG Strix SCAR 18 is powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor, an upgrade over the Core Ultra 9 275HX found in the previous generation. ASUS is also offering configurations equipped with up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 laptop graphics.

The hardware combination is aimed at gamers seeking ultra-high frame rates and smooth 4K gaming performance on demanding modern titles. The laptop’s large 18-inch display is part of ASUS’ ROG Nebula HDR lineup, which focuses on high refresh rates, improved brightness, and enhanced color accuracy.

ASUS has not yet announced all available configurations, but lower-priced versions with less powerful hardware are expected to become available alongside the flagship model.

240Hz Mini LED Display Focuses on Motion Clarity

ASUS Introduces ROG Nebula ELMB Technology

One of the headline features of the ROG Strix SCAR 18 is its 240Hz Mini LED panel with ROG Nebula ELMB, short for Extreme Low Motion Blur.

According to ASUS, the technology is designed to reduce motion blur and improve image sharpness during competitive gaming sessions, particularly in esports titles where rapid movement and high frame rates are critical.

The Mini LED panel includes more than 2,000 local dimming zones and supports up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness, along with HDR support for enhanced contrast and lighting effects.

The display also covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, making it suitable not only for gaming but also for video editing, streaming, and creative workloads. NVIDIA G-SYNC support is included to help minimize screen tearing and stuttering during gameplay.

High-End Memory, Storage, and Connectivity Options

ASUS says the ROG Strix SCAR 18 can support up to 128GB of DDR5 memory running at speeds of up to 6400 MT/s.

Storage options include up to 8TB of PCIe Gen 5 SSD storage through a dual-drive configuration, allowing users to combine two 4TB drives for additional capacity. The inclusion of PCIe Gen 5 technology is expected to provide significantly faster load times and file transfer speeds compared to earlier SSD generations.

Connectivity features include dual Thunderbolt 5 ports, offering higher bandwidth than Thunderbolt 4, alongside multiple USB Type-A ports for gaming peripherals and accessories.

Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 support, while a 2.5G Ethernet port is included for gamers who prefer wired internet connections for lower latency and more stable online gameplay.

Tool-Free Upgrade Design Adds Flexibility

Easy Access for SSD and RAM Upgrades

ASUS is also emphasizing ease of maintenance and upgrades with the new model.

The ROG Strix SCAR 18 features a tool-less bottom panel that allows users to access internal components without needing traditional screwdrivers. The laptop also includes ASUS’ ROG Q-Latch system for SSD installation, enabling users to swap storage drives without screws.

The design may appeal to PC enthusiasts who frequently upgrade storage or memory to keep pace with increasingly demanding games and creative applications.

Battery and Pricing Details

The laptop is equipped with a 90Wh battery, though real-world battery life will vary significantly depending on workload. While lighter tasks such as web browsing and video playback may allow for extended usage, demanding gaming sessions are expected to drain the battery more quickly, which remains common among high-performance gaming laptops.

ASUS has not officially revealed pricing for the ROG Strix SCAR 18. However, industry expectations suggest that fully equipped configurations featuring the RTX 5090 and maximum storage and memory options could exceed $4,000 in the U.S. market.

ASUS Expands Competition in Premium Gaming Laptop Market

The launch of the ROG Strix SCAR 18 comes as gaming laptop manufacturers continue competing to deliver desktop-level performance in portable systems. With features such as a 240Hz Mini LED display, RTX 5090 graphics, and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, ASUS is positioning the SCAR 18 as a premium option for gamers, streamers, and creative professionals seeking cutting-edge hardware in a mobile setup.
