Cannes is under scrutiny after a security guard, who was previously criticized for similar behaviour, targeted K-pop star Yoona with racist treatment. The incident comes in the wake of a confrontation between Kelly Rowland and Dominican actress Maciel Taveras.
The bouncer reportedly prevented YoonA from interacting with the cameras, leading fans to believe that the bouncer had issues with “women of color standing on the stairs.”

Yoona, who attended the 77th Cannes Film Festival in a pink dress, was seen in a video looking uncomfortable after the guard rushed to her. The video surfaced after the Kelly Rowland incident, with Rowland suggesting the guard’s actions were racially motivated.
Fans noted “mistreatment” when the American actors were allowed more time to appear. Another video clip showed Maciel Taveras getting into a heated argument with the same guard who tried to prevent her from appearing in her dress. Taveras eventually pushed the goalkeeper.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Kelly Rowland said that she stood up to the guard, stressing that other women who did not look like her were not reprimanded or pushed. This series of events sparked discussions about racial bias at the festival.
