Jonathan Majors’ lawyers claim that he was in fact the victim of an altercation with a woman known to him

Creed III actor Jonathan Majors has been accused of assault and molestation after an incident involving a woman in a New York apartment.

The 30-year-old was allegedly assaulted by Majors on Saturday in what police described as a domestic dispute.

The actor’s lawyers denied any wrongdoing.

They indicated that the 33-year-old was, in fact, the victim of the “altercation”.

NYPD said they were contacted around 11:14 a.m. local time Saturday after receiving a 911 call from an apartment in Manhattan’s Chelsea borough.

They added that the woman, whose name was not released, sustained minor head and neck injuries and was taken to hospital.

In her complaint, she alleged that Majors slapped her and put his hand on her neck, hitting her and causing her “extreme pain,” according to Variety.

Priya Choudhury, Major’s criminal defense attorney, said there were videos and witness testimonies to support their claim that he was the victim and that the woman in question, who was known to him, had recanted her allegations.

Chaudhary added that she expects all charges against her client to be dropped soon.

Majors is no longer in police custody.

After his arrest on Saturday, the US Army announced it would temporarily pull ads featuring the actor as part of a campaign to help with its recruitment efforts.

In a statement, the Army Project Marketing Office said that while Majors is “innocent until proven guilty,” it would be “prudent” to remove the ads pending an investigation into the allegations.

Majors’ arrest comes just weeks after the actor presented an award at the Academy Awards.

His career took off after the success of 2019’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco, before starring in the Netflix western The Harder They Fall and the Marvel Comics movie Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

Majors plays actor Michael B. Jordan’s nemesis in Creed III, the boxing movie released earlier this month.
