Disney+ Reveals Details of Anti-Password Sharing Campaign

Disney+ has outlined how it will implement its anti-password sharing campaign — or what providers call “paid sharing” — and what subscribers can expect.

In a blog post today titled “Paid Sharing on Disney+: Here’s What You Need to Know,” the company said the “features and capabilities” are now available in the U.S., Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe, and Asia Pacific after launching in select markets over the summer and that it expanded the program this week.

Like Netflix and other streaming services, it is cracking down on accounts that people living outside of their primary Disney+ residence can access. “They will need to sign up and pay their subscription fee or be added as additional members to the primary account.

That’s an additional $6.99 per month for the basic version of Disney+ and $9.99 per month for the premium version.

Only one additional membership slot is available per account. The additional membership option is not available to Disney Bundle subscribers or participating partners who are charged for their subscription.

If someone signs up for their own Disney+ subscription, it’s possible to transfer their profile, viewing history, and settings.

Account holders will still be able to watch Disney+ on supported devices. If account holders are abroad and you see the message This TV does not appear to be part of the family for this account.“They can select themselves as away from home, or select Home Update if you recently moved and need to reset your home location for your Disney+ subscription. These choices will require a one-time passcode sent to the email address associated with the account.”
