Porsche is relaunching the 911 GT3. The exceptionally well-equipped road sports car makes its anniversary debut with an expanded lightweight strategy, a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated boxer engine with 375 kW (510 hp) and 450 Nm and new, more customer-focused options. The Weissach package, available for the first time on the 911 GT3, offers further configuration options tailored for track use. In addition, the sports car comes with more comprehensive standard equipment and other options that enhance its precision and sporty character.
911 GT3 with modern design
The new 911 GT3 models feature sharp styling at the front and rear as well as adapted aerodynamics. On both models, a redefined front diffuser, improved shape of the spoiler lip and revised fins at the bottom of the body increase downforce and improve airflow. The redesigned Matrix LED headlights, available on the 911 GT3 with an optional white ring, combine all the lighting functions of the 911 and eliminate the need for additional lights in the front apron. This allows for an expanded air intake area and a clearly structured appearance. At the back, the diffuser, air inlets and rear cover have been redesigned. The 911 GT3’s rear wing has new angled side panels.
Porsche uses specially developed, aerodynamically shaped rear arms with a teardrop shape on the double-wishbone front axle. They increase downforce in the wheel arch at high speeds and improve brake cooling. To ensure that downforce is maintained between the front and rear axles even when braking at high speeds, suspension engineers have reduced pitch (anti-roll). In the new 911 GT3, the lower trailing arm’s front ball joint is positioned low on the front axle to facilitate this. The 911 GT3 adopted these modifications to the current 911 GT3 RS. The 911 GT3 comes standard with 255/35 ZR 20 (front) and 315/30 ZR 21 (rear) sports tires with improved wet grip; Optionally, track tires are available with road approval.
The Tour Package has been available since launch and is more customizable
With this model change, Porsche defines the 911 GT3 models more clearly. For the first time, the popular Touring package will be available immediately upon market launch. The “Tour Package” designation goes back to one of the equipments of the 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7. It has been part of the GT3 program since 2017. It is even more distinctive on the new 911 GT3, as reflected in the “911 GT3 touring” logo on the rear bonnet grille. The 911 GT3 with Touring Package dispenses with the fixed wing, thus maintaining the timelessly elegant line of the 911. The extendable rear spoiler with tearable edge, the famous Gurney flap and the adaptive fin design on the lower body provide aerodynamic balance. The interior offers high-quality leather and a classic sporty ambiance.
For the first time, the rear seat system is available in a 911 GT3 with the Touring package as optional equipment. This allows the everyday sports car to be more individually adapted to the customer’s wishes for maximum driving pleasure on winding country roads. “You can clearly feel that the steering is better tuned than before, especially on winding country roads,” says Porsche brand ambassador Walter Röhrl. “It instils greater confidence in the car because it responds more quietly from center mode without losing any of its steering. The shorter gear ratio also greatly enhances driving pleasure on country roads.
Lightweight design all around
Its low overall weight contributes to the 911 GT3’s agile and direct handling. The new 911 GT3 features a lightweight design. The new silver-coloured lightweight aluminum wheel reduces unsprung masses by more than 1.5 kg compared to the previous model. Optionally, magnesium wheels are available with the Weissach package or the Leichtbau (lightweight) package. They save nine kilograms. The new lightweight 40 Ah lithium-ion battery contributes to the sport’s BMI by shedding almost another four kilograms. In the lightest configuration, the new 911 GT3 weighs just 1,420 kilograms.
Eight percent shorter gear ratio
The 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine in the new 911 GT3 has been designed to meet today’s most stringent exhaust standards and is equipped with two particulate filters and four catalytic converters. With its extremely powerful emissions control system, Porsche also provides an impressive soundscape. The engine power of the six-cylinder boxer engine was achieved through a series of optimization measures. The cylinder heads have been revised, and the 911 GT3 RS’s sharper camshafts provide even more dynamic performance in the upper rev range.
In addition, individual throttle valves with optimized flow and optimized oil coolers are used. The boxer continues to produce 375 kW (510 hp). This means that each kilowatt of the regenerative, naturally aspirated high-revving engine only has to move 3.8 kg (2.8 kg/PS) in the vehicle’s lightest configuration. In addition, both the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (PDK) and 6-speed GT manual transmission have an eight percent shorter final drive ratio than their predecessor. Two gearbox options are available for both the 911 GT3 and the 911 GT3 with Touring package. The new 911 GT3 accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds with PDK and reaches a top speed of 311 km/h (manual gearbox: 3.9 seconds; 313 km/h).
“On the track, the new 911 GT3 offers even better handling because it remains more stable and handles better on bumps and when driving on curbs thanks to the optimized tuning of the dampers,” says brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister. “The anti-dive system significantly reduces roll movement when braking. As a result, the car’s balance remains noticeably more consistent in all conditions.
Innovative lightweight sports bucket seat
For the new 911 GT3, a new lightweight sports seat with folding backrest and CFRP seat shell is available as an option. The seat is equipped with a built-in thorax airbag, electrical height adjustment and manual longitudinal adjustment; A three-stage seat heater is available as an option. Part of the headrest padding can be removed. This improves ergonomics for most drivers when wearing a helmet while using the track. The backrest folding function, activated via a loop, gives access to the optional rear seat system offered for the first time in the 911 GT3 with the Touring package. Alternatively, you can order adaptive sports seats with 18-way electrical adjustment.
The standard black two-seater cockpit of the new 911 GT3 is based on the design of existing 911 models. However, unlike the Carrera models, the 911 GT3 is not started using a button, but still has a rotary ignition switch. An optionally available slider shows how close it is to motorsport. The digital instrument panel in the middle supports the driver with a clearly organized display and control concept. Thanks to the contrasting color scheme, the rev counter and stopwatch can be read at a glance. The “Track Screen” display mode minimizes the digital displays to the left and right of the tachometer to display basic data about tires, oil, water and fuel, and indicates the optimal shift time to the driver by flashing the gear. If desired, the tachometer display can be rotated so that the cutting speed of 9,000 rpm is at the 12 o’clock mark.
Individual packages for the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 Touring
Porsche offers various equipment packages for the new 911 GT3. With the availability of the Weissach package for the first time, the 911 GT3 is even more individually customizable for track use. The anti-roll bar, connecting rods and shear plate on the rear axle are made of CFRP, as are the roof and side panels of the rear spoiler, the upper cover of the outside mirror, the mirror triangle and the air blades in the front area. Additional leather and Race-Tex upholstery improves the interior’s appearance. For the first time, the upper side of the 911 GT3’s instrument panel is covered with anti-glare Racetex. CFRP door handles and storage grilles enhance the interior door panels for a lightweight design. A CFRP roll cage and lightweight magnesium wheels are available as options.
For the 911 GT3 with the Touring Package, Porsche offers the Leichtbau Package. Here, the roof is painted in the exterior color along with the stabilizer, connecting rods and shear plate on the rear axle in CFRP. Lightweight magnesium wheels and lightweight door panels are also part of the package. In conjunction with the standard 6-speed GT sports gearbox, the short shift lever from the 911 S/T is used. In front of the gear lever, a plate with the inscription “Leichtbau” indicates the package.
For the 911 GT3 with spoiler, the Clubsport package is available for track use at no additional charge. It includes a steel cage bolted to the rear, a 6-point safety belt for the driver, and a hand-held fire extinguisher. The optional lightweight sports seats are a prerequisite.
“The new 911 GT3 has become even more exciting and unique. We have looked into a wealth of details and given it many of the features that our customers wanted. This allows the GT3 to be adapted more specifically to the purpose or preferences of the driver,” says Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Cars.
The exclusive chronograph is a “sports car for the wrist”
Exclusively for owners of the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 Touring, Porsche Design offers an exceptional timepiece that translates the design and performance of the sports car to the wrist. The 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 Touring chronographs are equipped with the precise COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.200 movement, which features a fly-back function. The ultra-light titanium case, optionally coated with black titanium carbide, combines sports car design with modern watchmaking.
The GT3 design dial with yellow accents and hexagonal structure evokes a car’s dashboard, while the winding rotor is based on the design of the GT3 bezels. The disc ring is available in all exterior colors of the 911 GT3 and Touring Package, as well as in the Paint to Sample colours. The bracelet, made using genuine Porsche interior leather and threads, matches the vehicle’s specific configuration.
The new Porsche 911 GT3 and the new Porsche 911 GT3 with the Touring package can be ordered from the end of the year.
