Finally, Apple TV+ has arrived on Android

Apple TV+ doesn’t have a functioning Android app, though its library is growing and extending across multiple other platforms. That could change, as Prime Video may start offering Apple TV+ as an add-on to the currently available Android app.

Apple TV+ has a great deal to offer not only in shows and movies but also in sports, through its MLS and MLB partnerships. These offers were available to users of Android TV, Google TV, iOS devices – of course – and even Windows devices. However, there is no Android.

There’s technically a web app that users can access, though the media player functionality is weak at best. It is not a substitute for using a dedicated app to watch your favorite content.

according to AmazonPrime Video could start offering Apple TV+ as an add-on subscription as soon as this month. The plan will cost an additional $9.99 per month and will include original TV shows and movies, like the dedicated app on other operating systems.

The article notes that the add-on will allow access to MLS Season Pass and MLB programming. Ideally, this means that every match available through Apple’s dedicated app will also be available through Prime Video, although that’s a bit unclear.

Prime members who subscribe to Apple TV+ via Prime Video will have access to premium entertainment including Severance, Slow Horses, The Morning Show, Presumed Innocent, Shrinking, Hijack, Loot and Palm Royale, as well as global hits like Wolfs and The Instigators. And more, plus Major League Soccer and Major League Baseball sporting events.

Apple TV+ over Prime Video would be an excellent development for Android users. If Amazon allows viewers to watch Apple TV+ at no additional cost with an existing subscription, the move will essentially bring Apple TV to Android in some form officially. This is better than what is currently available to Android users.

Amazon only indicates that this add-on will be available “later this month,” with no additional details available yet.
