WhatsApp's Meta AI chatbot has become widely available to users, but it needs to be activated first. This guide will cover how to turn on Meta AI in WhatsApp and how to chat or create images.
Meta has been teasing Meta AI for its suite of apps since last year when WhatsApp announced that it would make AI stickers available to users in certain regions.
Meta artificial intelligence, specifically, is a custom AI developed by Meta and used in Facebook Messenger. The model is based on Llama 2 from the same company and, according to Meta, uses Bing as its search engine partner. Apparently, this is in line with the performance of Microsoft's Bing AI engine.
Recently, Meta AI has appeared on devices in the WhatsApp messaging app, offering much of the same experience as other chatbots. The main difference here is that it can be accessed directly through an app that you probably already use a lot. Chatting with him is as easy as doing so with another human being – in general.
Before you can talk to Meta AI or be asked to create images, it must be turned on in the WhatsApp app. Here's how:
- At the bottom right of the screen, tap New Meta AI logo.
- He hits He accepts On Meta terms and conditions after reading.
- Start chatting.
Once you accept the Meta terms, you will be able to access Meta AI like any other WhatsApp chat. You'll see it among your other chats, and can be accessed by tapping the new logo above the new chat button.
One thing to note is that although Meta Ai is similar to other chatbots, it may not offer the same variety. For example, ChatGPT allows you to turn off data sharing. AI models are known to collect data from chats to improve performance, but some bots like ChatGPT allow you to turn that off.
If you've used an AI chatbot before, such as Google Gemini or ChatGPT, you'll be familiar with Meta AI. You can Ask questions About basically anything, as long as the model deems its answer appropriate. This includes restaurant suggestions for your area or complex inquiries with non-serious answers.
To create an image, you use the slash command. By entering /Imagine [image prompt], you tell Meta AI that you want to generate an image. According to the engine itself, you are limited to 25 image generations per day. You're unlikely to do a lot of these things in a day after the initial field test, though it's possible, considering that image generation by Meta AI is pretty quick to come up with something. It can miss the mark just like some other models, but it's a lot of fun to play with.
Once again, WhatsApp's Meta AI is being rolled out widely to users in what looks like a stable release in the US and India, though there may be more regions available. However, it is a free add-on that does not require any payment method, which is always welcome.
