Today, just hours after iOS 18 beta 6 was released to developers, the accompanying public beta update is now available as public beta 4. New public betas have also been released for macOS Sequoia, iPadOS 18, and more. Here’s what’s new in public beta 4.
Quick release of the new public beta
Apple has historically released public betas about a day after releasing a major developer beta. However, the company broke with tradition this time and released its new public betas on the same day.
The fourth public beta of iOS 18 includes a variety of new features, and also offers bug fixes and stability improvements.
New Features and Changes in Public Beta 4
Apple Music has renamed the Browse tab to New, and has also rearranged the tab’s contents. It’s a relatively small change, but it’s worth noting nonetheless.
One update that deserves a “finale” is that there’s now a dedicated Bluetooth control available for Control Center. Previously, the only way to access Bluetooth settings from Control Center was to use the standard connectivity control. That meant you also had to include the accompanying toggles for Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, and AirDrop. But now, you can use a standalone Bluetooth control that takes up less space.
Dark mode app icons now appear correctly in notifications. In previous betas, notifications still used the standard light mode app icons, even in dark mode.
Speaking of app icons: If you want to set a custom hue for your app icons, you can now do so for each of your wallpaper/lock screen combinations. The hue of your app icons can be customized for each different wallpaper you create.
The public beta 4 also features a variety of start screens across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. These screens highlight some of the new features available in these new operating system releases, but there’s nothing specifically new in this latest beta. You’ll see these features in apps like Home, Photos, Notes, and more.
summary
If you’re already running a previous public beta on your device, you should see Public Beta 4 as a new download available in the Software Update section of Settings.
If you haven’t joined the public beta yet, You can do it here. As a first step towards installing the new beta version.
