JBL's latest generation of wireless earbuds, the Live 3, appear to be designed to withstand grueling outdoor running sessions — or just deal with the wear and tear of everyday life. The three new models – Live Buds 3, Live Beam 3, and Live Flex 3 – are not only dust and water resistant (Buds and Beam are IP55, Flex is IP54) but they also include the same touch-screen charging case that we first saw on the Tour Pro 2 from JBL.
The 1.45-inch LED touch screen in the charging case lets you retrieve calls, view texts, manage your music, and get social media alerts — perfect when you don't want to get your sweaty, dirty hands on your phone. While it's probably overkill if you own a smartwatch or tend to keep your phone handy, a touch-enabled smart case is a great feature for the rest of us.
The three earbuds differ slightly in style and capabilities. The Live Buds 3 are classic bud-shaped headphones with an ergonomic design. It offers 10 hours of playtime out of the box with ANC, with an additional 30 hours of charging from the case.
The Live Beam 3 are closed-type earbuds and offer 12 hours of playtime with ANC turned off and an additional 36 hours of charging from the case.
Meanwhile, the Live Flex 3, which are open-type headphones, deliver the highest total power of 10 hours with ANC turned off and an additional 40 hours of charging from the case.
All three will eventually support Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio (which will come later in an over-the-air update) and be compatible with high-end Android phones like the Google Pixel 7, 8, or Samsung Galaxy S23. All Live 3 earbuds are also available in your choice of black or silver.
All three models are priced at $199.95 and will be on sale later this summer.
