A few weeks ago, my colleague Rita El-Khoury wrote about Google One losing its appeal, but she was limited to the service primarily because of Google Photos. We also asked our readers and YouTube subscribers what they thought of Google One. The findings are sparking growing dissatisfaction among those who currently sign up for Google One plans.
Our website and YouTube polls collected more than 14,000 votes combined, and while many people said they plan to keep their Google One subscriptions, their reasons for staying stem from compulsion, familiarity, and lack of better alternatives to Google Photos more than anything else.
It's the overall sentiment of existing subscribers that should concern Google.
“It's more expensive than other options out there. But Google Drive's forward and backward sync ability is unparalleled, at least on Android. So, until one day Microsoft or someone else comes up with some similar sync and storage capabilities at a lower price, I can't switch “I'm stuck,” said one YouTuber who voted in our poll.
Meanwhile, a large group of Google One subscribers are wondering whether they should continue paying for their subscriptions or move to other cloud storage services. Of course, there are those who never signed up for Google One and a small group of users who did and have moved on to other options. However, it's the overall sentiment of existing subscribers that should worry Google.
“Google One scammed me by offering me to try their AI plan and apparently converted my 2TB plan to a 2TB AI plan. When I decided to go back to my regular plan, they cut my vacation by four months and said the new renewal It will be in August instead of December This is kind of the “last straw” with Google I bought the OneDrive plan (which is actually cheaper and gives each family user their own 1TB enclosure and includes MS Office) and I'm moving on to that – of course – Photos I use Google Takeout to take all my photos, but I'm still thinking about the best way to categorize everything in OneDrive Pictures. Robot body reader.
“I'll get a NAS on my own network and maybe back up all my photos on it instead. I now have a 2TB family plan and the only reason I bought it was to store photos. I have a Pixel phone and use a VPN but I can live without it. I wish I could live without it,” said another. “There's a new entrant into the phone game but we're stuck with Google or Apple services.”
It seems like Google has its work cut out for you on this one.
“I ditched Images as soon as Google pulled the 'free' rug out from under us because the writing was on the wall. Thanks to the callous way Google is being about YouTube and ads, I won't be investing in any of their products,” said one reader who moved away from Google One entirely. or its services in the future.
Meanwhile, many Google One users want new additions to the service to make it more profitable for them.
“I'm still hoping we can include Nest Aware and Fitbit subscriptions like in the UK. It will save me some money and help me stay in the ecosystem,” one user said.
“I use cloud storage and YouTube Premium. I wish Google would combine these two subscriptions into one. But that will probably never happen,” said one of our YouTube subscribers. Another reader echoed this request, saying: “I hate paying for One and YouTube Premium.” Give me a combo deal.”
It seems like Google has its work cut out for you on this one. The company recently announced that it is killing Google One VPN to make way for better features in Google One plans. Hopefully, the company will listen to some user feedback and take the necessary steps to make Google One more attractive over time.
