MSI laptop leaked
MSI takes on ASUS and Lenovo with a brand new laptop.
Less than 24 hours have passed since MSI's first teaser on social media, and now we have an image, name, and full specifications of the upcoming device. This gaming device is called CLAW, and it will be powered by an Intel Meteor Lake processor.
MSI relies on Core Ultra 7 155H SKU for the Claw, it is already a high-spec processor with a total of 16 cores and 22 threads, which is double what the Ryzen Z1 Extreme offers. However, Intel devices feature a mix of P cores and E cores, which is not yet a popular choice among mobile device makers, mainly due to the limited graphics performance that comes with this architecture. However, things changed with the introduction of the Intel Core Ultra 100H series.
The system will contain 6 P cores and 8 E cores, with 2 LP cores. The graphics included will be based on the architecture of Arc Alchemist 8 Xe cores Boost up to 2.25GHz. Officially, the Core Ultra 7 155H is a 28W processor with a maximum turbo power of 115W. Early tests indicate that Arc Xe-LPG graphics show a competitive advantage against AMD's integrated RDNA3, as seen in the Ryzen 7040 and 8040 series. This competition will be interesting and will motivate Intel to improve its drivers.
The leaked specifications also confirm that the system will have up to 32 GB of memory. This is twice what Legion go and ROG Ally can offer without any modifications. However, it is possible for MSI to offer different configurations for the same device because not everyone needs that much memory.
The new laptop will be officially introduced at CES 2024 next week, but the leaked teaser definitely spoils the surprise for MSI fans. It appears to have been part of MSI's marketing materials in China that were shared prematurely, so if anyone is to blame, it's MSI.
