National Grid power outages affect thousands in the Rochester, New York, area

Essential upgrades to the National Grid system More than 7,000 customers will leave In the Rochester area, there was no power on Saturday.

National Grid said in a press release last week that the company will replace two old structures supporting a transmission line on January 6. The scheduled power outage will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m

“We understand the inconvenience of having power outages of this length at this time of year,” says Ken Kugawa, National Grid's regional manager. “The need to address these structures is urgent and has come to light in recent weeks during work related to the extensive electrical system upgrades our crews are conducting in the area.”

Where and how much will a power outage affect the national grid?

More than 7,000 residents of Monroe, Livingston and Ontario counties will be without power for about nine hours on Saturday as National Grid plans

The planned power outages are expected to affect about 7,300 customers in Livingston, Ontario and Monroe counties, including areas designated:

  • Avon, Caledonia, Lima and Livonia
  • Bloomfield and West Bloomfield
  • Henrietta, Honeoye Falls, Mendon and Rush

Warming centers will be available at nine locations throughout the affected area. The company said the menu and times when facilities will be open and available are subject to change, due to schedules and staffing.
