Essential upgrades to the National Grid system More than 7,000 customers will leave In the Rochester area, there was no power on Saturday.
National Grid said in a press release last week that the company will replace two old structures supporting a transmission line on January 6. The scheduled power outage will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
“We understand the inconvenience of having power outages of this length at this time of year,” says Ken Kugawa, National Grid's regional manager. “The need to address these structures is urgent and has come to light in recent weeks during work related to the extensive electrical system upgrades our crews are conducting in the area.”
Where and how much will a power outage affect the national grid?
The planned power outages are expected to affect about 7,300 customers in Livingston, Ontario and Monroe counties, including areas designated:
- Avon, Caledonia, Lima and Livonia
- Bloomfield and West Bloomfield
- Henrietta, Honeoye Falls, Mendon and Rush
Where you can go to keep warm during a power outage from the national grid
Warming centers will be available at nine locations throughout the affected area. The company said the menu and times when facilities will be open and available are subject to change, due to schedules and staffing.
In Livingston County, affected residents can visit these locations to stay warm:
- East Avon Fire Department: 1615 West Henrietta Road in Avon, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Avon Fire Department: 74 Genesee Street in Avon, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Lima Ambulance Base: 7024 W. Main Street in Lima, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- J. W. Jones Hall: 366 Leicester Road in Caledonia, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Here are places affected residents can stop in Monroe County:
- Mendon Fire Department Community Room: 101 Mendon-Iona Road in Mendon, 8 AM – 5 PM
- Rush Fire Department Building: 1971 Rush Mendon Road in Rush, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Honeoye Falls Ambulance Base: 210 East Street in Honeoi Falls, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Ontarians affected by the power outages can visit these sites:
- Ionia Fire Department: 8338 County Road 14 in Ionia, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- West Bloomfield Congregational Church: 9035 Routes 5 and 20 in West Bloomfield, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Tips for electricity and generator safety
National Grid provided some advice ahead of Saturday's power outage to ensure its customers stay safe.
- Generators used to supply power during an outage It must be operated outdoors To prevent the buildup of deadly carbon monoxide.
- Before starting the generator Make sure to disconnect from the national grid system By closing the main breaker located in the electrical service panel. Failure to do so could put National Grid staff and your neighbors at risk.
