The New York Jets cruised to a 24-3 win over the New England Patriots on Thursday night. The Jets carried a 14-3 lead into the locker room and looked in complete control of their AFC East rival through two quarters. While everything on the field was perfect for the Gang Green in the first half, there was an interesting moment between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Robert Saleh that got social media buzzing.
After the New York Jets took a 14-0 lead over the New England Patriots on a goal by Bryce Hall from the line, Saleh and Rodgers quickly shook hands on the sideline. When the head coach hugged him, Rodgers threw rocks at him by placing his hands on his chest and appearing to say something sternly.
After the game, Rodgers provided some context, saying: “It wasn’t awkward at all… He doesn’t normally like hugs, so I didn’t know he was going to try to hug. He also likes to push on the chest with his hands. But he talks a lot about going two goals up. So I pushed him and said, ‘Two goals up’. And that’s what happened.”
Saleh also downplayed the moment. “He just wanted to see something in defence. He just reminded me that we were two goals up,” he said.
The New York Jets offense did its best to extend its lead over New England, scoring points in every quarter of Thursday’s win. Overall, New York racked up 400 yards of total offense compared to New England’s 139. They also dominated possession time, holding the ball for more than 40 minutes in the winning effort.
